Wordsmith

Wordsmith is a Pearson education programme for reading comprehension, speaking and listening, grammar and writing, designed to ensure progress for every child. Wordsmith provides schools with a consistent approach to teaching with detailed planning to help you improve results in English.

I was tasked with designing a short non-fiction series that was better than a book. Content was explicitly designed to take advantage of all the extra features an eBook has to offer over a print one. Children can click on various elements on a page to be taken off to find out more. It’s fun and motivating for the reader, plus it’s even better for developing their research and synergising skills.

• Storyboarding content with the editorial team
• Sourcing freelance illustrators and commission artwork
• Writing artwork briefs, managing illustrators and artwork budgets
• Working with the media research team to source appropriate imagery (photo, video, illustration)
• Executing all visual design work, including custom typography and illustrations
• Preparing and testing of ePub files for publication

Students aged 6-7

Orang-utans

This engaging ePub was designed for Year 2 primary school students (aged 6-7) to explore the fascinating world of orangutans. Through vibrant animated characters and captivating fun facts, children learned how these gentle apes navigate the rainforest and find their favorite foods. The interactive experience also helped young readers understand the dangers orang-utans face and how they can help protect these amazing animals.

Students aged 7-8

Tutankhamen

“Who Killed Tutankhamen?” was an exciting ePub designed for Year 3 students (aged 7-8) that followed two detectives as they unraveled the mysteries surrounding the life and death of the famous pharaoh. With animated characters, scrolls, and clickable items, young readers explored ancient Egypt and discovered fascinating clues. This interactive adventure helped children understand the history and culture of Tutankhamen’s time while solving the mystery themselves.

Students aged 9-10

Animal migration

“Animals on the Move” was designed for Year 5 students (aged 9-10) and explored the incredible migrations of wildebeests, butterflies, salmon, humpback whales, and arctic terns. With videos, fast facts, quizzes, and animated maps, young readers learned about the diverse journeys of these animals across land, sea, and air. I created and animated all the illustrations myself, enhancing the educational experience and helping children appreciate the wonders of animal migration.
